Great SealThe Salt River Indian Community is comprised of two tribes; the Pima or "Akimel O'Odham" (River People) and the Maricopa or "Xalychidom Piipaash" (People who live toward the water).

The Salt River reservation was establisihed by President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1879. Today there are approximately 7000 members of the Community, most of whom are Pima. The SRPMIC own and operate several enterprises, including Salt River Sand and Rock, Saddleback Communications and Casino Arizona. The Community and its tribal government are known throughout Indian Country for their business savvy and successful community programs.
