Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community
The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) is actually two federally recognized Native American tribes that live together on the Salt River Reservation. The Salt River Pima-Maricopa live on two reservations in Arizona, one at Gila River, the other at Salt River. The Maricopa joined the Pima for protection from the Yuma in the early 19th century. Together, a group of the Indians migrated north from the Gila River to the Salt River Valley in 1870. The Salt River reservation was establisihed by President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1879. Today there are approximately 7000 members of the Community, most of whom are Pima. The SRPMIC own and operate several enterprises, including Salt River Sand and Rock, Saddleback Communications and Casino Arizona. The Community and its tribal government are known throughout Indian Country for their business savvy and successful community programs.

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian culture adds a richness and diversity to Phoenix, Scottsdale and surrounding communities with their history, art and culture.  To learn more about the community please visit the community web site at www.saltriver.pima-maricopa.nsn.us

Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Sunsational Student Nomination
We are very excited to be working with the Phoenix Suns and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community to establish the Sunsational Student & Teacher Recognition Awards!

The Sunsational Award program was created to recognize SRP-MIC enrolled students and SRP-MIC based educational staff that are making a difference in the community and are making great strides towards educational success. (please see nomination forms for additional criteria/guidelines).

Each season, six (6) students and six (6) SRP-MIC based educational staff members will be recognized for their outstanding efforts at selected Suns games in a pre-game ceremony. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our outstanding community youth as well as to thank their educators for their dedication and commitment to excellence.

If you know a SRPMIC enrolled student (grades K-12) or a SRES/SRHS staff member whose efforts should be recognized, please nominate them for this award and help us spread the word about this new program...
